| Make that The Nod Squad.
Theres no use trying to parse the script for this film version of the blissfully
tacky 60s television show, because there isnt one, even though Stephen Kay,
director Scott Silver and Kate Lanier were all foolish enough to keep their names on the
credits. The only other thing left to say about this risible dud is that it defies reason
why MGM, a studio that cruelly invokes its 75-year legacy of excellence before each of its
movies, would bother to hire three of the most exciting, talented and beautiful actors in
town (Claire Danes, Giovanni Ribisi, Omar Epps), one of the most resourceful
cinematographers in this country (Ellen Kuras, who shot Swoon), along with a mostly
capable crew, only to forget that what they needed before all else was a story, a story, a
story. And, oh yeah, a director who could do something with Danes, Ribisi and Epps besides
making them look like exquisitely anguished Prada models.(Manohla Dargis) http://www.laweekly.com/film/film_results.php3?showid=676 |
